Menhir Development Log
What is This?
Menhir is the (placeholder) name of a role-playing game that I have been working on for the last four-ish years. Done in my spare time, it was always a project focused on learning over ever actually creating a full game. With no opportunities to learn how large scale RPGs are built, I decided to try building my own to get a sense of how these systems are built and work together. Because of that, the project changed alot through development, not just with the usual game adjustments, but also because of what I wanted to showcase through the project
Menhir is inspired by games like Daggerfall, Morrowind and Ultima: Underworld. I had one overarching goal going into this project which was to create a "minimalist immersive RPG" which mean't tring to discover how to get the most "immersion" out of the game with as little content, art and coding possible. It may be obvious that I failed at this with scope and art creep, but it still informs the core direction of the game when it comes to features and the world
You can check out a demo build I made of an older version of the game, this includes a small playable area with a few quests that would have setup the main story and served as an intro
